On a pleasant Friday evening, 14 CLYC members and their partners and friends gathered for supper in the River Room of the Royal Lymington Yacht Club and started planning for the potter in scows the following morning. We were extremely fortunate to have been offered the use of 10 privately owned boats, as well as the two club boats.

| When we gathered on Saturday morning, we found we had 12 members wishing to sail and were able to match them with six scows: Michael Donaldson and David Marsh in Swallow (owned by Sylvia Pepin); Derek Ross and John Absalom in Pooh Sticks (David Ridout); Richard Pickance and Mike Oldale in Goshawk (Chris Knox); Mark and Justine Twogood in Scamper (Carol Edge); Roger and Susan Burroughs in Skedaddle (Chris Harris); and Nigel Reese and Chris Nicholson in Birthday Girl (Claire Bridge). |

We were very fortunate to have Sylvia, Claire and Ann Blacoe to help us rig the boats (and recover them at the end), as well as Graham Neal and Melanie Ganley in Viking and Charles Holden driving Golden Haven, the two club ribs acting as safety boats, carrying Sylvia Pepin, Peta Walmisley and Carol Marsh.
By the time we had bacon rolls and coffee and launched the scows, the tide had risen sufficiently for us to have a very enjoyable sail, with some friendly, informal, racing in the mouth of the river organised by Charles, after an initial practice. Graham and Melanie provided great support for Richard and Mike, who filled with water at the beginning

and had to be nannied at first, recovering well to finish third in the later races. The overall winner was Pooh Sticks, helmed by Derek Ross, but the race back to the slipway was a close finish.

Twenty-eight CLYC members and guests sat down to a fantastic curry supper in the Club restaurant on Saturday evening. The evening concluded with the Commodore presenting Derek Ross with a bottle of port and boxes of chocolates to Richard Pickance and Mike Oldale for their valiant effort. The Commodore expressed the CLYCs appreciation to the Royal Lymington Yacht Club and hoped we would be invited back next year, when we hope to have even more interaction with the Lymington hosts.
