BURNHAM REGATTA 2011

The start of a very challenging race

Our Burnham rally was a very challanging affair with very mixed weather but our stalwart sailors prevailed in the very blustery conditions, with horizontal rain, 40 knot gusts, and trying to tack against the wind and tide, all testing the fleet to the limit .

We had a Friday night buffet at the Crouch Yacht Club with a champagne reception followed by a delicious buffet - another very enjoyable evening.

The reception before dinner at the Royal Burnham Yacht Club on Saturday
About fifteen met up for coffee/tea, scones with jam and cream in the morning before the race briefing. The race was full of incident. We had three retirements and the boat on which the Commodore was invited managed a grounding on the mud banks after being driven onto a lee shore by very strong winds in driving rain. To our immense relief, our very able crew managed to get us off the mud and no damage was done except to our pride!

Having been swept and blown away by the racing, we all rested up for the prize giving in the evening at the Royal Burnham Yacht Club and Sir Richard Rycroft was our special guest for the evening.

A very big thank you to Vice Commodore Peter Jeary and Marina Nicholson for all their efforts in making the weekend such a success.
